Outdoor Broadcast Technician

Duties and Responsibilities

• Setting up and testing OB equipment (cameras, microphones, communication systems and other broadcast tools).
• Ensuring the quality and integrity of audio and video signals from the remote location to the studio.
• Troubleshooting and fixing and technical issues that arise during live broadcasts.
• Collaborating with producers, directors, camera operators, and other crew members to ensure smooth operation.
• Operating OB vans or mobile units and end ensuring all equipment is maintained and functioning correctly.
• Ensuring compliance with safety standards and procedures, especially in outdoor or hazardous environments.
• Managing power supply, connectivity, and other logistical aspects of the broadcast setup.

Requirements

• A diploma or degree in broadcast engineering,  telecommunications or a related field.
• 2-5 years of experience working in live broadcast environments, especially with OB setups.
• Proficiency in using and maintaining broadcast cameras, sound mixing consoles, communication systems and other broadcasting tools.
• Understanding of video transmission standards, signal processing, and broadcast networking protocols (SDI, IP).
• Ability to quickly troubleshoot technical issues during live events.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as OB events often occur outside standard working hours. 
• Ability to carry and set up heavy equipment, often in challenging outdoor environments.
