KUCHING, 10 November 2021 – 26 local filmmakers stand to benefit as the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFFA) 2021 Malaysian Screening took place in person at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Auditorium last weekend.
One of Asia’s largest international short film festivals, SSFFA’s mother festival has been organised every June in Tokyo since 1999.
Jointly organised by the Creative Heritage and Innovation Community (CHIC), 42nd Pictures and MBKS, the Malaysian screening this time around was its 12th edition, screening 12 short films, produced by 12 countries including Malaysia.
Making appearance at the event was Sabah-born film director, Nadira Ilana for an exclusive Q&A session following the screening of her work, ‘Were the Sun and the Moon to Meet’ which were shortlisted for SSFFA and Southeast Asia x Seattle Film Festival this year.
Another highlight in the screening was a short lecture on Visual Storytelling by Yasu Tanaka, world’s first industry expert who garnered official Script Analyst credit in Japanese films distributed by major studios such as Warner Japan, Toho Studios and Dentsu Inc.
Delivering the lecture together with Yasu was Bea Tanaka, his Malaysian wife who started 42nd Pictures with him in 2010, producing TV and feature films for domestic and international markets. Their past works include Lari, Sayang Lari!, Nota, Terbalik, Lemak Kampung Santan and Seamless.
SSFFA Malaysian Screening first took place in Kuching in 2019 and was conducted virtually in 2020.
